About the Center

paper dolls The Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (CECMHC) was funded as an Innovation and Improvement Project by the Office of Head Start in October 2008. The 3-year grant brings together a group of university researchers to develop strategies to help Head Start programs build a strong mental health foundation for their children, families and staff.

Our team's approach is grounded in a set of principles and a research-based model of delivering high quality mental health consultation services. Our team's vision is grounded in a set of principles and a research-based model of the core components of an effective approach to high quality mental health services.

Our University Partners are:
- Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development: is the primary grantee. Read more about the GUCCHD team.
- University of Colorado at Denver: Phil Strain is the lead researcher for this subcontract.
- University of South Florida: Lise Fox is the lead researcher for USF and Kwang-Sun Blair is contributing her expertise.
- Vanderbilt University: Mary Louise Hemmeter and Rob Corso are contributing their expertise to the CECMHC.
Our Head Start Partners: we are partnering with an array of Head Start programs in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Tennessee, and Washington DC to field test materials as they are developed.
